Town Square plots are some of the smallest we work with anywhere in Dubai, which is really the point of the community — the private garden is meant to be a quiet extension of daily life while the central park handles the actual running-around-and-play part. That changes the brief from the start: we're not trying to squeeze a lawn, a dining area and a pool into 40 square metres, we're picking the one or two things that plot can actually do well.

Given how close townhouses sit to each other here, privacy comes up in nearly every conversation before design even starts. A boundary wall that's overlooked from a neighbour's upstairs window or a shared walkway right along the fence line means screening planting or a slatted pergola panel often does more for how the garden actually feels than anything else in the brief, and it doesn't need a big budget to make that difference.

Because the plots are small, most of our Town Square work is fairly quick to install once designed — which is good news for owners, but it also means the material and layout choices matter more per square metre than they would on a bigger plot. There's less room to hide a wrong call.

Front areas in Town Square tend to be minimal by necessity — there often isn't much of one — so we keep entrance planting simple and put the real design attention into the rear, where the household spends its time.

Planting choice follows the same logic as the surface — robust, low-maintenance species that can handle being close to a small, heavily used garden rather than anything that needs careful attention. Because these are newer, fairly uniform builds, we're rarely doing a big renovation here — it's mostly first-time installs on what was a bare handover yard, which makes it more straightforward than working around inherited soil or old irrigation from a previous scheme.

Maintenance rounds are quick but still worth doing regularly — brushing artificial turf to keep it looking fresh, checking the odd drip line, and trimming boundary planting before it starts blocking the light or privacy it's meant to provide. It's a lighter job than a bigger villa garden, but a neglected small garden shows its age fast precisely because there's nowhere for problems to hide.
